DISCLOSURE: We were very sleep deprived and delusional while writing this post. Thanks, jet lag!
FAMILY AND FRIENDS WE HAVE ARRIVED! Despite the layover in Lisbon, a lost bag, and a whole bunch of delusion throughout, we are finally in our new favorite place: Sevilla (note: Spainards do NOT understand the word Seville).
Advice given to us at the airport from our loving parents included the following: “assume everyone is going to mug you”, “don’t talk to anyone ever”, “don’t get fat,” and “don’t come home with a Spanish boyfriend…or else.”
First plane felt like a trip to Florida. Did we sleep? Unclear. Did we eat the coleslaw with deli meat? Hard no. Did the airplane food remind us of a weird potluck dinner? Most definitely.
First flight down! Onto Lisbon. It turns out Lisbon is known for its insanely long lines that take hours to move a single inch. With Cassie kicking her bag through the line and Jodi laughing loudly at any semi-funny thing she saw, it was clear from day one that these girls were a dynamic duo not to mess with. It seems that Hashem has rewarded us with Starbucks at the next gate. Cassie was in utter culture shock when she ordered her classic “iced grande skinny vanilla latte” in the typical New York fast-paced fashion, and was ordered to “SLOOOWWW DOWNNN” by the barista. Stage One of culture shock has begun.
Moving onto the second plane. Let’s just say the second plane had no left phalange. But instead of exiting the plane as they did on the hit 90s sitcom FRIENDS, we decided to just go with it and trust this crazy small place with old-school fan propellers.
Unfortunately, the dual-plane excursion ended with a missing suitcase situation that we all hoped and prayed wouldn’t happen. Yes, yes the rumors are true. Jodi Rebecca Zingler’s suitcase with her wardrobe was kept in Lisbon. To many of our followers surprise, Jodi did not shed a tear. Fortunately, Hashem literally had her address because the suitcase arrived promptly the next day! #PHEW
That is all for now…
Something to Know: Cassie and I have adopted British accents when traveling. Reason is unclear.
Few Things We Have Learned So Far:
1. Jodi’s name is Sevilla is pronounced “Jodi Thingler”
2. Cassie will now forever be known as Cassidy to Spaniards
3. Math percentage skills are not necessary as tips are never needed for any service.
4. It is OKAY to take your time at a meal, nothing bad will happen to you if you just relax.
5. Cab drivers use Google translate more than us silly Americans.
